Emily Casner

Emily is beginning her first year of coaching here at Red Rock. Growing up in a sports focused family, she always knew that she wanted to follow her father’s footsteps and one day be a college athlete. After 8 long years of playing soccer, Emily’s parents encouraged her to utilize her height in a different sport like volleyball. After one season, she quickly fell in love with the sport and turned all of her focus on volleyball in 8th grade.

Emily played all 4 years on varsity at Vanden High School where she led her team to win the conference for 3 consecutive years, earned MEL All-League MVP her Junior and Senior year, and ranked 5th in California and 36th in the Nation for blocking her Junior year. In the middle of her junior year she committed to play at UC Riverside during her 17’s club season with Leslie Ray. This is where her friendship and volleyball relationship began with Leslie who has been a mentor since.

During her 2 years at UC Riverside she transitioned from middle to right side until her career was cut short due to various injuries and surgeries. Now medically retired, Emily yearned to find a way to impact the volleyball world. She believes that there are many life lessons to be learned on a court that cannot be learned in day to day life. Her goal is to create an outlet for athletes, she strives to show young minds how to work hard and build confidence in themselves all while enjoying the journey.

Emily is excited to now enter the volleyball world as a volleyball coach rather than a player.
